Weekend Project: The Farmhouse Bathroom

Weekend Project: The Farmhouse Bathroom

Been working on converting a room in the farmhouse into a bathroom. The floors, ceiling, and walls are original — dating back to at least the 1930s. It was a bedroom once upon a time, and we’re doing our best to maintain all the original wood through the conversion.

As much as I enjoy working in the cloud during the week, sometimes you just need to shut the lid on the laptop and get your hands dirty. I’ve always enjoyed home remodel work — there’s something about hands-on projects that balances out the screen time.

If you look around the room, almost everything is original to the house — the floors, ceiling, walls, and even the light fixtures are all from the same era. The only new pieces are the clawfoot tub and the vanity. My wife and I love thrifting, and whenever we find a relic we love to restore it and work it into the farmhouse. Those sconces? Cleaned up and rewired, but they’ve been around since the 1930s.

Sanded floors and fresh paint

Stripped everything back, sanded the hardwood floors, and put up a deep green on the walls. The contrast with the warm wood is exactly what we were going for.

Shelves and ceiling light

Today’s progress: trimmed out the window, cleaned up the walls, hung the floating shelves, and restored a set of vintage 1930s light fixtures. They cleaned up beautifully.

Clawfoot tub in place

The clawfoot tub is in — just needs to get hooked up. Almost there.

Vanity and restored vintage sconces

Restored the vintage sconces, got the mirror and vanity set up. All that’s left is plumbing the tub.
